“The Golden Place” (Bonorva – Logudoro/Sardegna)

Panel on Cultural Arts, Eco Revival and Sustainable Tourism Italian Cultural Institute of New York in collaboration with the Italian National Tourist Board (ENIT), Com.It.Es, and DisterraUS (Sardinian Community in the US), featuring scholars, architects, journalists, and tourism industry officials, who will gather to discuss the resources of the small inhabited village of Rebeccu and the Bonorva territory as a cultural model for Sardinia and other regions in Italy.

Architect Roger Broome, a licensed, LEED-accredited architect, will lead the tour. Costantino Nivola was a unique figure who bridged art and architecture by creating site-specific artwork for buildings, most publicly accessible and many in collaboration with prominent architects. He occupies a largely unexamined but important place in the post-war modern movement, and his artwork communicates to a broad audience using a symbolic language he created with materials and methods often shared by the buildings he embellished.

Beyond its fabled beaches, reconsidering how its unique history and ways have shaped Italy and Europe today, Jeff Biggers, in conversation with Valeria Orani, explores how travelers must first understand Sardinia and its ancient and modern history to truly understand the rest of Italy. Jeff Biggers also presents his latest book, In Sardinia: An Unexpected Journey in Italy.
